House sales in Portugal drop 5% in Q1
Confidencial Imobiliário estimates that the number of homes sold in mainland Portugal in the first quarter of this year fell 5% to around 44,850.
The number of homes sold in mainland Portugal in the first quarter of this year fell 5% to around 44,850, compared with the previous quarter, according to the projections of Confidencial Imobiliário published on Thursday.
Confidencial Imobiliário’s estimates are based on data reported to the Residential Information System (SIR), which aggregates data on sales reported by market operators, including price indicators and discounts.
The Metropolitan Area of Lisbon was responsible for one-third of sales (33%), for a total of 14,730 homes transacted, while Porto had 15%, with around 6,640 homes sold.
The Centre region accounted for 23% of quarterly sales (approximately 10,370 homes), followed by the northern region (14%, approximately 6,220 homes), the Algarve (9%, approximately 4,155 homes sold) and the Alentejo (6%, approximately 2,730 homes).
In the period under analysis, the average selling price of houses in the country was €1,734 per square meter.
In the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, that figure was €2,222 m2, and in the Algarve, it was €1,799 m2.
In Porto, houses were sold at an average price of €1,495 m2 in the first quarter of 2020.
The average time taken to sell homes was six months, remaining stable throughout last year.
