The German company explained that the decision affects around three hundred employees and is expected to be implemented by the summer of 2023.

Adidas is preparing changes in the structure of the shared services unit it has in Maia, in a plan that may lead to the dismissal of about 300 workers, according to Jornal de Negócios and confirmed to ECO by an official company source.

Contacted, the German company explained that this decision affects around three hundred employees and is expected to be implemented by the summer of 2023.

“The affected employees in Porto have already been informed about the planned measures. Adidas regrets the impact this decision might have on employees and is trying to find fair solutions for all affected employees in personal conversations. A possible transfer to another position in Porto has priority,” the company explained through an official source.

According to a source from the company, in recent weeks, it had already been communicated to employees of this shared services centre, installed since 2009 in the Maia Science and Technology Park (TecMaia), that “new hires were frozen”.

“In the future, certain tasks will be performed at other locations outside of Portugal and, in a second step, new responsibilities will be created in Porto. The aim is to bundle competencies more uniformly at the various sites. The Porto site will therefore continue to play an important role for the company,” Adidas added.
