The CEO of TAP says that minimum services will allow around a third of flights scheduled for Thursday to go ahead. Impact on accounts still to be determined.

TAP expects to operate a third of its flights on the day of the general strike, the airline’s CEO told journalists on Tuesday. The impact of the strike on the company’s accounts has not yet been calculated.

“A normal day at this time of year has around 260 flights. I don’t have the exact figures for minimum services because they are being changed with details that also have to do with the airport’s operating hours and because of noise and slots coming from other airports, but I would say that a third of operations will go ahead”, said Luís Rodrigues.

“We are concerned with ensuring that the operation that will take place on Thursday, which has been agreed with all the unions, runs as smoothly as possible”, said the CEO, who explained that customers flying on the 11th were contacted by customer service teams to propose changing their flights to three days before or after in order to minimise the impact.

The minimum services provided by TAP include three flights from mainland Portugal to the Azores (two to Ponta Delgada and one to Terceira) and two flights to Madeira, one return flight to Belgium, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, three flights between Portugal and Brazil, and two return flights between Portugal and the United States. Return flights to the base are also guaranteed.
