“This project represents a total estimated investment of €161 million and foresees the creation of 60 direct and 200 indirect jobs, of which 80% correspond to local jobs,” he added.

The plot of land of around 56,000 square metres is owned by the local authority, and the promissory contract stipulated “the acquisition of it by the company for €100,000.

According to the local authority, the company plans to install “a green hydrogen production plant, using water electrolysis technology, in the economic activities zone of Vila Velha de Ródão” and create “two photovoltaic solar farms to produce the electricity needed to operate the plant, to be installed in Vale Pousadas and Urgueira.

The mayor of Vila Velha de Ródão, Luís Pereira, said that it was in the municipality’s interest to support the project, “given the benefits presented to the municipality by this company, which include, besides economic growth and job creation, the emergence of new technological solutions, with high synergies with the local and national business fabric”.

The Vila Velha de Ródão Chamber and Municipal Assembly had already decided to accept the issuing of the declaration of municipal interest for the installation of this industrial unit, “a measure that focused only on the installation of the green hydrogen production plant in the economic activities zone of Vila Velha de Ródão, without any commitment to the viability, or otherwise, of installing the solar farms indicated in the proposal presented by the company,” he added.
