State authorises €112M for modernisation work on North, Douro rail lines
In total, 99.8 million euros are planned for the electrification of the Douro line between Marco de Canaveses and Peso da Régua.
Nine authorisations of cost sharing for works on the North and Douro railway lines, including the electrification up to Régua, were published on Friday in Diário da República (the government’s official gazette), totalling 112 million euros for the country’s infrastructure operator, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).
According to the nine joint orders from the ministries of finance and infrastructure and housing, the largest amount authorised today is up to 79 million euros, relating to the sharing of expenses for the contract for the implementation of electrification and tunnels on the Douro line, between Marco de Canaveses (Porto district) and Peso da Régua (Vila Real).
In the same vein, the second largest slice is for the authorisation for the contract for the design-execution of the Bagaúste traction substation, worth up to 12.5 million euros.
This is followed by €4.4 million for the “management and supervision” of the electrification and tunnels of the Douro line, €2.25 million for the “design/construction of railway telematics” (monitoring and communications), €750,000 for the “installation of a public information system”, €500,000 for “video monitoring” and €410,000 for “remote control”.
In total, 99.8 million euros are planned for the electrification of the Douro line between Marco de Canaveses and Peso da Régua.
As regards the North line, today’s orders authorise the sharing of expenses for the full track renewal between Ovar (Válega) and Espinho, in the district of Aveiro, amounting to 12.2 million euros.
It is divided between 4.8 million for supervision, 3.7 million for the “acquisition of TBBG block concrete sleepers for application in the construction work” and 3.5 million for the “Acquisition of 54E1 and 60E1 rails”.
The authorisations for IP to share the expenses are subject to the “condition of having European funding with an approved application”, with the national public contribution “not exceeding a co-financing of 31.02% of the contract” in the case of work on the Douro line and 25.49% in the case of the North line.
